Kruger Roomboxes In Lincoln Schools
Friday October 10, 2008
Here's a great collaboration to celebrate National Miniatures Month. The Kruger Collection at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, have combined forces with Lincoln, NE public schools to send out a travelling exhibit entitled Little Nooks From Great Books, an exhibit of six roomboxes based on popular children's books. What a great way to jump start the imagination and share the museum's resources.
The theme rooms being toured through the schools include The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Harry Potter. They will be travelling to seven public schools between now and June 2009. If you can't get to the Kruger collection in person they have a wonderful online gallery to inspire you. Hopefully their travelling exhibit will inspire some young miniaturists, and encourage clubs, collectors and school districts to do something similar in more locations! Is this similar to any projects your club is involved with? Please leave a comment below.

Another magazine, this week for model car builders. Scale Auto covers a wide range of models and scales from 1:8 to 1:43. Even if you don't build model cars, there are lots of techniques here for working with plastic (polystyrene) as well as interesting paint and modifying techniques. If you want information on precision gluing of plastic, this is the place to find it!

Corn stalks are a sign of fall, as well as a standby for miniature Halloween and Thanksgiving scenes. Like many other scale plants they are easy to make from raffia or paper and wire. Try your hand at making a few of these corn or maize stalks for a corner of your next autumn scene. They can be made in several scale sizes.
Other fall plants you can make:
